EU Pumps €1bn ($742 million) into Fuel Cell Research
New public-private joint venture aiming to deliver mass market fuel cell products within 12 years.
The EU has set itself the ambitious target of delivering the mass-market roll-out of hydrogen fuel cell technologies before 2020, as part of a major €1bn ($742m) six year research programme designed to bring together public and private sector research teams from across Europe.

SymPowerco Targets Fuel Cell Markets
SymPowerco Corporation CEO John Davenport today announces the company's intention to pursue specific alternative power supply markets with its unique Flowing Electrolyte Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (FEDMFC). These markets include small vehicle hybrid power systems, industrial power supplies and consumer products. The markets for small to mid-sized liquid-fueled fuel cells have been estimated at upwards of $15 billion.

Pepperidge Farm Joins With FuelCell Energy, Inc. and Connecticut Clean Energy Fund to Dedicate the Country's Largest Fuel Cell at its Bloomfield, CT, Bakery
Pepperidge Farm, Incorporated today dedicated the new 1.2 megawatt fuel cell power plant it has installed at its state-of-the-art bakery facility in Bloomfield, CT. Manufactured by FuelCell Energy, Inc., based in Danbury, CT., the fuel cell is now the biggest power source for this 260,000 square foot manufacturing facility, and represents the largest single commercial fuel cell power plant in the United States.

Proterra Introduces Prototype Fuel Cell Hybrid Bus
Proterra LLC showcased the prototype of its new HFC35, a 35’ composite body, battery-dominant hybrid-electric transit bus at the 2008 APTA Expo in San Diego, California from 5th-8th October. This advanced bus is designed to accommodate a variety of auxiliary power units (APUs) including diesel, gasoline and CNG; the bus featured at the APTA Expo employed two Hydrogenics 16 kW hydrogen fuel cell APUs and a UQM® PowerPhase® 150 electric propulsion system.
