The fuel cell business is coming of age, at last, led by United Technologies and FuelCell Energy.
Starwood's Sheraton Hotel and Towers in Manhattan, Verizon's call center on Long Island, the Sierra Nevada brewery in northern California and a Whole Foods Market in Connecticut have little in common except this - all are powered by fuel cells that turn hydrogen into electricity, saving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Indian refiner to bottle water from fuel-cell plant
Mumbai-based Bharat Petroleum said it plans to break into the bottled water business to capitalize on the byproduct of hydrogen fuel cells.
The refiner said it would produce 1 million metric tons of water with every 1,000 MW of energy from hydrogen fuel cells. Bharat said it could then bottle the purified water and sell it at the company's fueling stations, according to the Business Standard of India.

The Fuel Cell Viability Study Fund aims to help more developers and local authorities to use hydrogen fuel cell technologies by funding feasibility studies into whether it is a viable technology for applicant's buildings and transport. UTC Power fuel cells heading to South Korea
South Windsor, Conn.-based UTC Power, a subsidiary of United Technologies (NYSE: UTX), said today that South Korea's Samsung Everland has purchased 12 UTC fuel cell systems for installation at a plant in the town of Anyang, just outside Seoul.
