Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
FUEL CELL TEAM LEADER
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy seeks a dynamic, motivated and highly qualified chemical engineer, chemist or materials scientist to serve as the Fuel Cell Team Leader within the Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and Infrastructure Technologies Program. The Program supports the President’s Hydrogen Fuel and Advanced Energy Initiatives, which aim to reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil and improve energy efficiency and environmental quality by accelerating the research, development and demonstration (RD&D) of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. The Program focuses on proton exchange membrane fuel cells for light duty vehicles in the transportation sector but also includes stationary/distributed and portable applications and works closely with stakeholders to enable early market fuel cell opportunities.
The Team Leader will function as the Program’s technical expert on fuel cells; interface with DOE’s Offices of Science and Fossil Energy (SECA program); monitor and leverage national and international partnerships; and provide input in developing DOE’s direction in national policies and programs. Specific technologies managed will include fuel cell stack components (membranes, catalysts, membrane electrode assemblies, etc.) and balance of plant components, as well as transportation and distributed energy systems, and portable power. Responsibilities will include:
• Identifying specific requirements and schedules for developing technologies to enable low cost and durable fuel cells that meet performance requirements;
• Developing long-term goals and objectives and formulating budget requests for fuel cell RD&D;
• Identifying and distributing the workload for program planning and implementation;
• Maintaining effective communications internally - with team members and senior officials, and externally - with partners and stakeholders

SVC TechCon and Exhibit hits Chicago
The Society of Vacuum Coaters (SVC) is a non-profit technical and professional organization whose vision is to be the global source for learning, applying and advancing vacuum coating, surface engineering and related technologies.
Vacuum coating is a field that encompasses a wide array of scientific techniques, processes, and products that most of us come in contact with every day. Many products have been developed using a vacuum coating process, including: optical coatings, architectural glass coatings, vacuum web coatings (packaging), decorative coatings (door hardware and fixtures); biomedical and pharmaceutical applications; and Cleantech Energy Conversion and Storage (a group of technologies that address global needs surrounding clean air, clean water, clean energy and a clean environment).
The 2008 TechCon and Exhibit in Chicago will feature a symposium on Cleantech Energy Conversion and Storage, hot topic Sessions on biomedical and pharmaceutical applications of vacuum processes and coatings, and high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HIPIMS).
It’s free to attend the exhibit—the only exhibit dedicated to vacuum coating and related technologies. There are also have events that take place within the exhibit, including our popular innovators showcase, new live product demonstrations and the poster session.
The SVC also offers a range of practical problem-solving courses taught by some of the most respected professionals in the vacuum coating industry. It's not too late to register for any of our 28 short courses at the TechCon.
After 50 years, the SVC TechCon continues to play a primary role in promoting contemporary research and technology in the future of vacuum coating technologies. For more information on the 51st annual SVC Technical Conference, Education Program or Exhibit, visit the website at www.svc.org. |
